Workshop Goals

What did FOGSS accomplish in 2022?

  1. Reconvened US-based and, to a lesser extent, international researchers studying the Greenland Ice Sheet.

  2. Established a forum for blue-skies community discussion on major scientific and community priorities.

  3. Identified key challenges limiting the understanding of the Greenland Ice Sheet: FOGSS 2022 major challenges.

The goals of the FOGSS 2023 hybrid meeting include & extend beyond those from 2022:

  1. Generate a prioritized list of programmatically actionable studies of the Greenland Ice Sheet and funder policy recommendations that this community must undertake to advance understanding of the ice sheet’s future.

  2. Identify what types of measurements or model developments will help resolve or make progress on the above prioritized list.

To accomplish these goals, FOGSS 2023 will include the following elements:

  1. Break-out group discussion to discuss the cross-cutting challenges and identify the steps necessary to make progress on them, as above.

  2. Invited retrospectives on past multi-year and multi-decadal efforts to study the Greenland Ice Sheet. How did those studies come about? What did they accomplish and how? What did they miss?

  3. An in-person poster session for ongoing or recently completed current investigations. Poster presenters: Please prepare your posters to be 36 inches wide and 29 inches tall.
